Ben didn’t want to just “improve” his communication skills. He wanted to stand out.
When he gave a presentation at a conference, he didn’t only want applause. He wanted people talking about it in the hall afterwards and telling everyone when they got back home.
When he met with his boss, Ben didn’t just want “a good meeting”. He wanted his boss fully engaged and talking to his boss about it, and that boss telling it all to his boss.
When he met with his team, he didn’t just want to “go through the agenda.” He wanted a team spirit that lifted everyone higher.
He wanted peers who respected him and sought out his opinions. He wanted customers with long-term, enthusiastic loyalty.
He wanted people’s faces to light up when he walked into a room.
Ben was done with ordinary. He wanted extraordinary.
“I’ve come to realize,” Ben said, “that communication could actually be a superpower. I’ve seen this in other people, but I don’t think most people realize they can achieve it. I want communication to be my new superpower. Get me there.”
I nodded and turned him over to Betsy, who schedules clients.
What Most People Don’t Realize About Transformation
Coaching isn’t just about learning techniques or practicing skills. Good coaching helps you discover truly amazing talents and abilities inside you and helps you bring them not only to the surface, but to the world. The moment you experience the true greatness you’re capable of, you start to transform.
Transformation happens when you start having those moments of truth that change your whole life. Not about what’s wrong with you or your “weaknesses,” but really BIG realizations about what’s RIGHT about you and the power you’re actually capable of.
Your realizations build on each other. They change how you see yourself. They change how you see other people. They change how you see communication. They change your ideas of how you’re “supposed to be.” They bring out who you really are. This completely changes how you feel when you speak. And soon, it changes how everyone responds to you.
That’s when communication becomes your superpower.
How to Develop Your Superpower
It’s nice to have someone who knows how to help you develop that superpower.
I compare them to the Jedi, the 10 Trainer/Executive Coaches our clients work with. They’ve mastered the art of teaching and coaching to such a degree that clients begin transforming into extraordinary communicators within hours. Very simply, you achieve your goals, and if your goal is to have communication be your superpower, these Coaches get you there.
Each Coach lives a life where every day their own communication is their superpower. Their work is a combination: tremendous skill, part intuition, and part art. When you’re in conversation with them, you can feel something shifting inside you.
Clients always tell me that simply watching how the Coaches communicate is a lesson in itself. They learn so much from experiencing this amazing level of communication close up, and seeing how the Coaches do it helps them tremendously in developing their own abilities. I’m flooded with emails from clients telling me how much they love their Coach, how incredible they are.
The Coaches know that everyone, including you, has this superpower within them waiting to be discovered. They see the great potential that you have that you can’t yet quite locate yourself, and they know exactly how to help you tap into it and fully activate it.
You practice a variety of tailored communication situations with brand new awareness and brand new skills, and as they coach you, they bring out something in you that you didn’t even know was possible.
And that’s when everything starts to change.
Here’s What Happens When You Activate Your Communication Superpower
Your whole world starts to respond differently. Your conversations. Your meetings. Your relationships. The results you create. Everything changes.
That’s what happened for Ben. He completed Causative Communication and then Executive Coaching. Now when he walks into a room, people light up. His boss and his boss’s boss both want him in the room for the toughest meetings. His team won’t work for anyone else. Even his boss says, “Can you explain it to the execs? You’re doing it so much better than I am.”
No one resents him for it. They admire it. It’s a relief to work with someone who brings people together, who makes things clearer, calmer, and more connected. People feel like they’re in the presence of something special.
Not long after Ben’s coaching, a young woman reached out for coaching for herself. She’s an engineer. I was surprised by the power of her desire to improve her communication, she was way more passionate about wanting to start her personal development than most. When I asked how she heard about us, she smiled and said, “Ben is my boyfriend. I saw what happened to him and I want it. I have big goals too.”
Do You Underestimate What You’re Capable of Achieving?
I wrote this message because I see so many wonderful talented people underestimate what they’re capable of. The moment you realize there’s something extraordinary within you, everything starts to change. Not just how you speak, but how you see yourself. That moment when you acknowledge what you’re really capable of and feel that first impulse to be it.
Most people stay in the ordinary, never reaching for the extraordinary that’s already within them.
The very first transformation doesn’t happen when you start coaching. It happens before that, when something inside you starts to make itself felt, and you begin to realize you’re capable of incredible things, and you start to dream about them.
Ben’s transformation began when he reached for the stars and that's where yours can begin too. Start by knowing you can reach out that far and touch the stars.
Think about one conversation coming up this week, perhaps a meeting, a presentation, or even a quick chat. Ask yourself: “What would this moment look like if my communication truly were my superpower?”
My sincere wish is that you get to discover the answer to that question!
Be the cause!
