Yesterday, we had a Beyond Persuasion graduation for the group that started the program in May. I was moved by their realizations, their wins. They spoke profound truths. I chose Carl’s to write about because it rang deep in my heart. I personally know this experience well, and how magical it is. Knowing Carl can enter another person’s world when he listens to them makes me profoundly happy.
What passes for listening in this world, oh it’s so sad. Especially when people disagree or their realities are quite different. The kind of listening that I see Beyond Persuasion graduates do is enough to turn your head. It’s enough to make a room go quiet because they know they’re witnessing something extraordinary.
To go into someone’s world. The effect it creates is beyond words. It’s so rare that a person has the experience: You have entered my world. To say it releases the tension gives it such a superficial purpose. To say it’s “effective” turns it into a manipulative technique. To say that it opens up something that very few people experience is accurate. To say it leaves you, and them, feeling amazed is also accurate. As well, that you both enter a world where extraordinary outcomes naturally unfold for both of you.
This level of listening takes three months to master. It’s one of many abilities you gain from Beyond Persuasion. You first learn to exercise these extraordinary abilities individually, and then in the 20th Chapter, you learn how to put them all together into a crescendo of extraordinary skill.
Am I using the word extraordinary too much? Each student completes over 200 exercises throughout the course. I personally review every single one of them. Their Coach and I make sure they do each one correctly. The passing standard is 100%. I see them all.
Sitting in my seat through these exercises, for all these people, and seeing their results, has shown me you couldn’t possibly use the word extraordinary too much to describe what they experience as they go through this program. Nor could you use the word extraordinary too much to describe the outcomes and relationships they create. It’s how they describe it. A person who graduated the program in back in January called me today to tell me, yet again, that the program was “life-changing”.
I don’t expect you to believe me, because you haven’t done it. I just want you to know that something like this is available.
In the meantime, the important thing for you to know is that when you deeply listen, you can create the extraordinary experience, for you and for them, of entering that person‘s world. I think you can get the concept of that.
