Nick, a young leader, completed Causative Communication and signed up for executive coaching to develop his messaging and presentation skills to high level executives.
I was looking forward to seeing Nick again. He showed up for his first coaching session looking WOW! Nick was looking directly at me with a smile, exuding warmth and charisma. He was captivating.
I said, “Nick, you look amazing! What are you doing?”
Nick said:
“It’s because I am fully here with you. I am really BEING HERE, I am really present with you. And I am really comfortable.”
I asked, “Are you always this way?”
Nick smiled and said, “Yes. Always. It started five minutes after I started your training and you went over it and you did that exercise showing us how. And I saw you doing it. And I have just stayed that way. I keep getting better and better the more I do it. I really like it. And other people love it. It makes them so comfortable, and it brings out the best in them. And that’s what I’ve always wanted. To bring out the best in everyone when we’re talking together.”
What he said is truly profound. The difference it makes is astounding. It’s so rare, exceptional even, in today’s world. You really stand out when you do it.
One of the first things that we work on in Causative Communication is the ability to be there comfortably, totally comfortable and all of you really present, in front of another human being.
If you can’t do that, you may not hear the words, “You look amazing!” as often as Nick does. If you can do that, you have the foundation for achieving anything.
Be the cause!
